Ink and paint layers


The drawings in a level consist of two layers:

These two layers make up the final image, as shown below:

The Trace layer

The Trace layer is simply a copy of the lines the animator drew on paper. This layer is used in the final output, after painting:

To view the Trace layer, choose an appropriate display mode button in the Painting window; see Display modes. For more information about editing the trace lines, refer to Inking drawings.

The Paint layer

The Paint layer defines the regions which can be painted:

The region boundary lines are derived from the pencil lines drawn by the animator, but their only purpose is to define the regions which can be painted. They do not appear in the final output, and you can make changes to them if necessary when you need to change the shape of a region. Any changes you do make don't affect the trace lines.

To view the Paint layer, choose an appropriate display mode button in the Painting window; see Display modes. For more information about painting regions, refer to Painting drawings.
